Capital Punishment: A Faith Based Study

Starts January 9, 2005, in the Arnold Room

Using a guide written by the Reverend Dr. Hunter Mabry, a retired elder in the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, this class will examine Capital Punishment. No matter what your personal beliefs are, the class will answer the following questions:

While the study guide does take the position that the death penalty "has ceased to be a needed or effective criminal justice penalty", it does adequately represent both sides of the issue. Such a difficult topic is sure to inspire a great deal of insightful discussion. Many of us are not totally sure where we stand. Won't you join us to analyze what history has taught us and put it into perspective with your personal beliefs. It may not be easy, but it will be interesting.


Group Leader: Wendy Liston

Wendy has been a member of Old South since 1987 and was on the original Adult Education Committee. She is the mother of Jillian (age 17), and John (age 14). Wendy has a master's degree in Maternal Child Health, and taught Pediatric Nursing at Boston College prior to retiring to take care of her children. In the early years of the Adult Education programs, Wendy taught many classes including those on stress, health care ethics, committee overload, and several parenting courses.
