Donations: our commission determines where Old South's mission budget will be donated. Various organizations (both international and domestic) are selected by our committee each year based on need.
Mission of the Month: our commission selects a quarterly mission project to receive donations using the special mission envelopes provided in the pew during worship services. These missions are promoted via the bulletin, the Family Visitor, the mission bulletin board, and occasional speakers during worship services.
Projects: our commission is involved in several annual projects including ministry at The Greater Boston Food Bank and My Brother's Table, a soup kitchen in Lynn, Mass. At Christmas time, we organize an Angel Tree benefiting the children at Cooper Community Center. Each spring and fall we coordinate clothing drives for the Maine Economic Ministry.
Missions: our commission has several covenant relationships with missionaries abroad as well as local. We sponsor Luis and Janet Garcia in Chile, Dr. Sylvia Reimer in Zimbabwe, and Pastor Rademas Fernandez in Lynn, MA. Work Teams: our commission sponsors work teams for both international and domestic projects. We have developed special relationships with Luis and Janet Garcia in Chile, and with the Maine Economic Ministry and have sponsored work teams for both projects. Our role is to publicize the project, recruit team members, and support fundraisers for the mission team.
