RMHS: Why did I start it?
People ask me why I started this collection of artifacts to makeup the
RMHSM even through I'm not an alumni. It is a lot of work and it is
a good question as to why I would be so motivated. Here are my reasons:
- I've lived in Reading since 1988, and I've been a Town Meeting member for
many years now so I've been involved with the town operations.
As a town meeting member I've spent many, many hours in
the old auditorium, so I feel some connection to the old building
that way.
- Both my daughters now attend or will be attending RMHS
(classes of 2010 and 2012 respectively). As future alumni
this collection will have significance to them.
- I contributed in earnest to the effort get the high school renovated,
and although it made no economic sense to retain the older parts of
the building I felt some responsibility for its demise.
This collection is a small way of preserving some of the old building
which has its own unique architectural elements that will be lost.
- I have a bent towards collecting things, and collections are much
more fun when shared.
Unfortunately, I have little storage space and no firm plans for a display
mechanism as yet. These things will come.
